Denny's in Willoughby, Ohio

Years ago I swore off going to Denny's because of their demonstrated racism in the eighties, but, as we all know, things change and I thought it time to give them another chance. Boy, was I a dumb-ass. This has to have been the worst I have ever had to put up with. The food was OK but the service was just awful.

This place is one of the few across the country that is regularly busy at various times of the day and should always be prepared for a rush at some point. I even worked for them in the early eighties and can attest to the fact that there were often strangely timed rush moments. These people were unprepared and some of them just slow and unaccustomed to serving the public, in my estimation.

Let's get to it, shall we? We had come from seeing Meat Loaf at the Tower City Amphitheater and wanted to find somewhere to get breakfast. We knew there were three places on 91 and 20 in Willoughby that had 24 hour business so the area was determined. When we both noted we had not been to Denny's in quite some time, our minds had been made up. We sat down at approximately 10:35PM in the section previously use as smoking section. Our server, McKynzi, was quick enough while getting to us originally but that is where it ended. She took our drink orders and then left for a good 10 minutes before returning to give the drinks then take our order. There were only two other tables in this section and one of them was being waited upon by someone else.

I ordered a Chicken Fried Steak and eggs, over medium, and McKynzi looked at me as if I had just landed from the nearest flying saucer. (The menu said "Country" Fried Steak not "Chicken" Fried. Oops, my bad, but she should have known there was very little difference if at all.) Anyway, my partner in crime ordered the Lumber Jack Slam. We sat there for more than 1/2 hour waiting for this food. There were other people in the restaurant but not so many that it should have taken that long. AND when it finally did come out my FUCKING eggs were way under done. I ask for the "medium" because I HATE runny whites. BUT, after already waiting forever, we decided to eat anyway. The food quality, other than my awful eggs was good, but the horrid service ruined the experience. My companion also liked her food which was a huge amount.

I really used to love going to Denny's but each time I have done so in the last twenty years it has been worse and worse. I hate to say it, but maybe you guys ought to think about a major re-vamp of your service style. Make up your mind. Do you want to be fast food or do you want to be somewhat decent dining? Train you servers better, as well.
