Perkin's Family Restaurant in Painesville, Ohio

Here we go again, my friends, at least I hope some of you are such. On are very steamy Sunday afternoon, around 2:50PM three of us decided to go to the above mentioned Perkin's. There are very few left in the area, and, if this is any indication, I know why. I was in the mood for breakfast type food and just couldn't get my lazy ass off the couch at breakfast time. Well, as you well know, the choices are not what one would call legion for a breakfast at Nearly three in the afternoon. I immediately vetoed IHOP because of my past experiences with them, as you may have already read in previous posts. Perkin's was the next on the list. I have not been to that particular place since I was in school in 1990, therefore decided, "What the fuck?"

As is often the case, our server was pretty good at the beginning. Jennifer was good with taking our drink order and giving us ample time, the second time around, to decide what to get from the overly busy menu. One got the new Steak Scramble, another the Captain's Catch and I ordered my perennial favorite, Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, with pancakes. The Catch came with a salad and the Scramble came with a muffin. Both arrived before the meals but it took them at least 15 minutes. That was entirely too long, it should have been no longer than 5, and there was no apology.

Then, after another 15 minutes, our entrees arrived. My over-medium eggs were done perfectly, which is a feat in and of itself, and the pancakes were OK. The syrup should have been labeled so as not to waste time and pancake using something that might be revolting to one and superb to another. I also loved my hash browns, for some reason I really like those re-constituted potato hash browns. BUT, alas, that is where it ended. My Chicken-fried Steak was to be covered with "country gravy" as stated on the menu. What it came out with was a sausage gravy, which I really do not like to begin with, that was absolutely horrid. I swear to you, this shit tasted like someone had cleaned the pot in which the gravy was made and forgot to rinse out the Comet Cleanser they used. I tasted like the smell of Comet. I was disgusted. When I finally talked to the "Associate Manager", Steve, he said that many people had made remarks about the new gravy decided upon by the corporate office. I hardly believe it all tasted like Comet, but I might be wrong. Whatever the case may be, you guys should immediately get rid of this shitty gravy.

The other two meals were fine. Jennifer, as seems to always happen anymore, fucked up at the end. I was trying to get her attention for at least 7 minutes before I finally got to Steve regarding the horrific flavor of the gravy. She never once came back to ask how things were, because if she had, I would have been able to tell her. (I know, that was a "DUH" thing but it had to be said.) She then took forever to get the check to us. Come on guys, why do all of the servers anymore forget that the end of the meal is also part of the tipping process. I do not give good tips unless ALL of the service is worthwhile. Don't forget about me just because I am no longer padding my bill. I am still your customer, treat me as such. AND, NO, the dessert question is not enough.
