Bennigan's on Route 306 in Mentor, Ohio
It has finally happened again, and you all know how rare it is. I actually had a good overall experience at a restaurant, well... 90 percent of it anyway. I and two cohorts went to Bennigan's on Saturday, July 14th at approximately 1:PM. It was something different and we decided, collectively, "Why the hell not?"
Immediately upon entry into the establishment, we were greeted by two young an perky females. They asked for our number and directly led us to our table. It was a booth which I do not like much but that is personal preference. There were probably at least twenty other tables filled in dining room so it wasn't exceedingly busy, but neither was it slow.
Within less than two minutes our server, and I do not recall her name right now but will find it in the near future, was there asking for our drink orders. In fact she even told us of all the current specials as is she truly knew them and was not just reciting a list. She was just the right combination of personal and professional. Honestly, she seemed like someone you would like to hang out with. Anyway, while looking over the menu, I accidentally slammed the drink menu down on the table with much more force than I had planned. Our server came right over and stated, with a smile on her face, "Next time, all you have to do is ask and I'll be here." Of course, that incident became the running joke of our time at Bennigan's.
One of our party ordered the appetizer combo with spring rolls, quesadilla, and nachos, including a very interesting pineapple salsa. It was not too sweet and not at all savory. The other sauce was a Mexican style salsa with a bit too much cumin. All in all it was very good. My other comrade-in-arms ordered the mini burgers with fries. She said that the burgers were much too small for the buns, which appeared to be egg glazed dinner rolls, but tasted good enough, though nothing spectacular. The fries with their seasoning were great. I had the blue cheese burger which was excellent. The burger was large enough that I could only eat 1/2 at that time. It had deep fried onions on top along with tomato and pickles, I would have left out the pickles but did not notice that on the menu. I also got the fries. As I have already stated, they were very good. I could not eat very many of them though, because they were extremely salty.
There was only one slight problem, other than the tiny "mini" burgers. Our service took too long from order to table. It should have taken no more than ten minutes for that order but took more like twenty. I suggest you guys speed it up and increase the size of the "mini" burgers just a bit. All in all, for less than $35.00 including iced teas and soda, Bennigan's deserves kudos.
