Zeppe's/Flavor's on the Vine in Eastlake, Ohio

I want to preface this by saying it is not my normal review type writing. This is more a specified discussion about man's inhumanity to man, in a microcosm sort of manner. This is also not at all about me but a couple of friends and their experience, written by me but FOR them:

On 20 December 2007, my husband and I were shopping, Christmas obviously, at the WalMart in Eastlake for two hours or so and decided we needed to eat something. We wanted to get something quickly so figured that closer would be better. Neither of us having been to Flavors on the Vine, our decision had been made. We lit up cigarettes when we got into the car and proceeded to drive basically around the corner. We were not done with our smokes at this time so pulled in to the first open parking spot. There were quite a few vehicles moving about so it was somewhat confusing, making our choice semi-spur-of-the-moment. We sat and chatted while finishing our cigarettes, then got out of the car to go to our destination.

Within seconds, a man from the Zeppe's outlet, also within the plaza, came out of the store SCREAMING at us with profanity. He was a middle-aged guy with black hair who looked as if he may have had some Mediterranean background. He yelled that we need to move our car. He then ACCUSED us of waiting until he had gone into the back of his establishment until we got out so we could, "sneak," into the other place without his knowledge. It was nothing of the sort. In fact, we had not even noticed him NOR his establishment. We were of one mind and that was sitting down to eat. This man followed us and continued to scream. We both felt extremely helpless as we were so astonished at his disrespect.

I tried to explain to him that we did not know what he was talking about when he, with the most audacity I had seen in years, stated, "Shut up! You're a scumbag." I was more than appalled, actually I was aghast, even horrified. Mind you, I and my husband drove up in a nice new Cadillac, and he is 83. The worst part of this was that he had just recovered from a stroke and I did not want to rile him by getting angry myself. He has owned establishments in the past himself and would NEVER have acted in such a manner.

While we continued toward Flavors, the man continued to verbally assault us. At that point, my husband decided to move the car. Thankfully the "madman" finally left us alone. The staff at Flavors, our server and the hostess, helped to redeem the evening. They were so friendly our psyches were almost healed.

When we left the restaurant, we DID notice a small sign attached to the building stating that it was a specified parking zone. Honestly, we did not notice it. If we had, we would not have parked there. BUT, regardless of what we did, the man should not have acted in the bullying manner he did. I my estimation, this man should, AT LEAST, be reprimanded, I would prefer fired, as that is what I would do if I were his boss. If, perchance, he is the owner of the franchise, he should have some consequence that shows him people so NOT act like that while representing Zeppe's.
