Claddagh Irish Pub in Legacy Village, Lyndhurst Ohio

A Sunday evening in the beginning of October seemed like the perfect time to try some place different, so... On October 4, 2009 at approximately 5:15PM we arrived at Claddagh. We were greeted quickly and with what appeared to be a genuine smile, thanks for that. We were seated at a high table in a corner with two other tables and the hostess apologized for the loudness around, asking if it mattered. We said it didn't, but by the time the meal was over the couples next to us were so loud we knew everything they felt and said. A band was supposed to have started on the other side of us and a wall at six but we were done and leaving by that time, thank God.

Anyway, I decided to order the Shepard's Pie, as it WAS after all an "Irish" establishment, while my companion ordered the shrimp and chips. I also asked for the seafood chowder which was quite tasty ( I would love that recipe).

The food did not take too long to arrive, so we were just about to be pleased. My plate was full and looked incredibly appetizing with piped browned mashed potatoes over ground beef with carrots, onions, potatoes and whatever else they could find (which is really what Shepard's Pie was all about in the beginning). BUT, upon looking at the shrimp and chips we were both dismayed. For $11.99 there were only six medium sized shrimp in a tempura batter on a very small bed of fries (oops, chips). Most places load a plate with chips and would have given at least eight shrimp for that price. I was shocked. To make matters worse, the "chips" were freezing cold. I have to say, though, that my pie was very good. It had some kind of undercurrent of sweetness that I was unable to place, but which gave it an excitingly odd flavor.

Our server was quite good during the meal but, now wait for it.... by the end, he seemed to have forgotten we were there. Why, oh why do these places not push the fact that a dinner is NOT over until the customers have gone? I hate that your tip suffered because you let the ball drop on the last play, so to speak.
