Mantel's Restaurant in the Eastlake Raddison.
My companions and I decided we wanted to try something a bit different for a change and thought the Sunday Breakfast Buffet at Mantel's would be just the ticket. I must say that we did start out impressed as it was in a upscale looking dining area, thought the area is a bit too open for the liking of two of us, as we feel it should be separated from the main hallway of the hotel by some glass walls or something of the sort, with a hot area, continental area, and an omelet/waffle station just outside the 1/2 walls of the dining area. All in all, for the $12.50 price, I think we did quite well. The food was decent, though the eggs had been in the pan for way too long and the French Toast tasted as though it was just smashed bread, in other words no egg flavor. I particularly liked the fact that they had chopped artichoke hearts as part of the ingredients for omelets, odd choice, but different.
Our server, whom had a bit of an accent, probably European, was very nice to begin with but soon completely disappeared. She came to the table to try to take a plate we were still using but was no where near when there were plates that obviously needed to be taken away. She served us on cup of juice and water but never asked if we wanted more. Then at the end of the meal, she kept trying to take my signed charge slip.
The tip is on that slip and she should have never asked for it while we were still seated. She did it once and I told her to leave it be. Then, as soon as we stood up, she took it from the table. That is poor form. Wait until your people have left their table before taking the check back. Your tip was based on your service and nothing else but do not presume that I should tip you at all. If I ever go back and you do that again, I will leave you nothing.
