Lucio's in Eastlake is Open Again

On Monday, March 3rd, 2008, a companion and I decided to see if Lucio's on Lakeshore Boulevard in Eastlake, had re-found its glory of a couple of years ago. To preface the remainder of this review, I must tell you that I thought Lucio's had the BEST pizza in the area bar none. That was until about a year or so ago when something happened. I did not find out that new ownership had transpired until I had decided to attempt to find another spot, not that it really mattered by then. The next thing we knew, the entire place was closed with stickers on the windows about inspection problems. That was kinda scary for those having eaten there, no?

Anyway, we decided to find out if the Kamron of, "Kamron's Back," fame on the sings on the windows and door, was the reason things were so good years ago. (I may have spelled his name wrong but it is not on purpose.) We were the only people there sans a single man sitting in the 1st booth in front of the cash register. As soon as we were seated our server, Makenna, took our drink order and got same. Very quickly three more tables arrived, of whom she must have known relatively well because they conversed, quite loudly, about things one just doesn't usually know about one's server. My complaint, which is minor here, is that it is very loud in this restaurant. You feel as though you are part of every conversation whether or not you want that, AND Makenna needs to stand when talking to people not sit down at their tables. I feel that a server sitting at the table shows a type of either preferential treatment or over-friendly confidence that someone wants you that close to them.

We ordered a white pizza with extra cheese and sausage which came out in about fifteen minutes. While waiting Makenna turned on the juke box, which was entirely too loud, but she did turn it down, some, after realizing it was up that high. The pizza crust was out of this world. I do not know if it was the mix of spices in the sauce or what, but I would come back just for that. The cheese was only mozzarella, which is boring and not what they used to have when I really liked the place and the sausage left something to be desired, but, I think, if they upgraded the sausage and added some sharp provolone or other cheese to the mix, the pizza would top anything in the area, and believe me I have looked.

Keep on working to get back and, hopefully, you will make it. Maybe you want to try something to deaden the sound somewhat, though.
