Cleats Restaurant in Mentor, Ohio.
Yesterday, 6 April 2008, my cohort and I decided to try the new Cleats Sports bar and grill. It is in the same building that housed Hooters last, which I never patronized. It has a very interesting interior but quite dark. We sat in a slightly raised area in the southeast corner of the dining room that was also near the restroom.
Upon arrival we were not greeted quickly enough to determine whether we should seat ourselves or wait. When someone did come up to us he should a slight haughtiness in the way he said, "I will seat you." It was just somewhat odd that no one was right there nor was there a sign denoting whatever. Our server, Sarah, was right there and took our drink order. She returned quickly and took my order for an Artichoke Spinach dip. The dip was somewhat boring but the chips, I believe they were pita chips had some grated Parmesan and were very tasty. There were large pieces of artichoke that made it feel venue made, but the flavor was just off, which could have been explained by the diced tomato. Tomato at this time of year does nothing but take away from the flavor. Plus, it took entirely too long. 17 minutes is much longer than it should have needed.
The menu was somewhat eclectic, but basic American fare. When my companion asked about the Cuban Pulled Pork Sandwich, which, mind you she wouldn't even have DREAMT of ordering a couple of months ago, the server explained it as a slightly spicy and not at all sweet BBQ, which was not accurate. I ordered the Roast Caesar Sandwich. I decided to order it even though the menu did not really explain the meat or enough of what to expect on it.
The meat ended up being roast beef which was OK. The pork sandwich was good but absolutely NOT spicy and did have a slight sweetness. The mound of fries looked like Everest. Honestly, I would like to go back and try the wings because we kept seeing them come out. Our service was somewhat slow and what I would term VERY slow on the appetizer side, but all in all the food was good enough to warrant a return visit.
