Deeker's (Formerly Gatsby's) in Mentor, Ohio

I have got to tell ya....oops, hello everyone. I hope you all have been doing well. If you want to continue that way, I would suggest you avoid Deeker's Side Tracks on Station Street in Mentor. My perennial companion and I jokingly said we would join my niece and her friend when we found out they were going there to watch my youngest niece and nephew. When we got on the road we decided, "What the hell, since we're already dropping off recyclables we may as well give them a try." They even had a sign out front advertising the fact that there was a Saturday and Sunday lunch.

On 27 April 2008 at approximately12:45PM we entered the cavernous building. This place is huge with two indoor bars and one outdoor. My sister and her crew were practising their volleyball technique for future games with other local businesses, I think. Anyway, we were going to sit inside but it was a BEAUTIFUL day and there were only two or three people in the place so out we went. Our server, Amy as it said on the ticket since she did not introduce herself, was pretty good in the beginning, but she fell apart with lightening speed.

We ordered some incredibly easy food AND an appetizer of wings (garlic Parmesan and mild). I ordered a "Deeker's Melt" Which was supposed to be Roast Beef, Ham, Bacon, Pepperoni and cheese on ciabatta bread. The bread was most definitely not ciabatta and beyond that it was horrifically boring. I did not want the bacon, but for some reason this thing had NO flavor beyond the pepperoni, and the chips which Amy said were "Great" sucked. They were made, supposedly, in the Deeker's kitchen but were over done and flavorless. My companion ordered deep fried breaded cod. It was fine. The wings were actually quite good in flavor for both styles. We had a problem with Amy remembering we were there. I had to wait nearly ten minutes before I could get her to come and refill my Iced Tea. We also had to ask twice for extra napkins. Instead of checking on us she stood under and awning to the north and smoked a cigarette then went inside again without checking on us.

My companion had to go inside to get the check and get us a box, which was entirely too small and Amy was told so but she obviously knew best and gave us the one we knew was wrong. THEN to top it all off, she gave us the wrong bill, by about $10.00 extra even after asking what we had a reading it back to us. This place may be decent, but It will take me a very long time to go back there. Thanks Amy.
