TJ's on The Avenue in Mentor

My companion and I went to TJ’s on the Avenue in Mentor on January 15, 2007 at approximately 1:40PM. It was a drizzly and ugly looking day, but the interior of the restaurant was light and welcoming, albeit very small. A nice young woman in a knit dress who told us to pick whatever seat we wished greeted us at the hostess station. We took one in the rear of the dining room but not out of the way. In fact, there were others near us and one couple even farther away from the front of the room than us.

Our server, Shannon was the name on the bill but for some reason I remember a nametag that said something like Pat. Anyway, as usual, I digress. We ordered our meals and were given the choice of lunch size or dinner size. We chose lung, for a sizeable discount, which was plenty. I ordered a veal parm while my companion ordered a Seafood Alfredo. Both were excellent. Our orders were served more quickly than we could have ever expected and they were hot and appeared fresh. Here is where things get a tad dicey.

Every time our server came to the table, whether it was to drop off food or ask a question, she started walking away before we, or she, were finished. For example, when she dropped off my salad, she sort of slid it to me as she was walking away. Then, after our food was all served and she came back for the obligatory, “How is every thing?” She started walking away before we even got to get a word out of our collective mouth.

Things such as that cause a server to get a piss-poor tip. I was quite annoyed with the fact that she didn’t seem to think our opinion was worthy of her attention. The restaurant, itself, did quite well with the flavor of the food. Shannon, though (if that was really her name) needs to do a bit of work on her tableside manner. She also had a bit of difficulty remembering we were still there after she walked away from the aforementioned question of quality. Two different couples that arrived after us and were served later than us had bills and were out of the restaurant before we got our bill.
Pay attention folks. I came back for the food, but the fuck-up will make me think twice.
