Boulevard Grille in Willoughby, Ohio
Hello again, my readers. This time we are going on journey to the Boulevard Grille and Lounge on Lakeshore Boulevard (hence the name) and Lost Nation Road in Willoughby, Ohio. Honestly, I would love to absolutely write a slash and burn review right here because I do not really like the owners of this establishment. Any time I have ever had dealings with them they have been rude and haughty (in my eyes it seems as though those of us who are not regulars are not important to them), but that, my friends, is beside the point.
On Sunday, December 10, 2006, we all decided we wanted breakfast, so…. We called around and found that the Boulevard could accommodate our relatively late start. We didn’t get our lazy butts moving until about 10:30. Come on now, it WAS a Sunday after, all. But, I digress as usual.
We walked in to a bar with fewer than five other patrons at that moment. Six of us sat at a large table near the back hallway and were almost immediately greeted by the most personable and perky (really, the word actually fits her) female server I have ever had the pleasure of having wait my table. She took our drink order while we awaited the last of our party. When she returned and one of our party ordered “one of those orange juices like they have,” mind you they were tomato juices, she took it in stride and said nothing until we made fun of our friend for getting, “you know, that red style orange juice that tastes like tomatoes.” The laugh she produced appeared genuine. In fact, she truthfully looked as though she were enjoying her job.
We ordered our food and awaited our service. Although, as I have already stated, our server was superb, the food delivery and quality was quite inconsistent. Obviously seven orders at one time were too many for the cook (we were told that the woman in the kitchen was not the regular cook but she did know how to cook from other establishments.)
Two of us ordered the steak and eggs, which we were told by another patron not to get because it “was awful’” in his words. We did it anyway and found him to be somewhat correct. It was not “awful” but was way too thin to attempt to order medium rare. Steaks this thin cannot be cooked less than medium well no matter what you do because even done correctly they will be over done by the time they reach the table. The home fries were tasty but in big chunks which I do not particularly like. Everyone said they liked the flavor. (except, of course the two who did not get any until they asked. They ended up taking them home for the dog because the spuds came out so late.) Another of our party ordered pancakes, which were horrid. They were so dry, and I tasted them myself, one would have had a difficult time discerning them from plasterboard. The eggs were done to our liking though.
So… here is what I will advise. If you want to go to an establishment just for the superb server in Danielle, Kudos to you Danielle you are wonderful, go to the Boulevard. If you want consistent and good food, go somewhere else. I won’t go back.
