Rooster's Wings in the Biddulph Plaza Cleveland, Ohio
My young companion and I were doing a West Side inspection today when we entered an obviously brand newly renovated space that was doing business as a wing restaurant named Rooster's. First impressions helped us return after inspecting the space, honestly the best in the entire shopping center in looks and definitely smell. (Though, nothing personal at all, the smell had nothing to do with food it was the smell of fresh lumber.)
D decided to get wings, as well he should have at such an establishment, while I opted for a more tame, since we did have to go back to the school building and spend another three of four hours, prime rib sandwich with CHEDDAR cheese and grilled onions. He got 10 Medium wings. I will give them kudos for their choices of wings as well as the size which were larger than most I have seen in recent years. It also appeared as though they had some kind of breading on them as well as the sauce. That is the way I like them best, but, alas, I did not eat them my companion did. He said they were very good, though. One more good thing, the ribeye, though very thin (I knew it would be so since that is always the case with the sandwich cut) was done, as best it could have been, to my "medium" specification, there was some pink in it, That has to be the first time I have ever ordered a prime sandwich and actually seen pink. Good job whomever cooked it.
Now for my suggestions:
First I would like to see a larger cut of prime rib for $6.99. (I mean this might have been 4 ounces but I doubt it after fat removal and such.) I could see the price if something came along for the ride but that is not the case here. In fact, that is the main compliant I have. Everything seems to be ala carte. (There were specials but our server did not explain nor even mention them, her only mistake.) Everything has to be ordered and costs extra. That is a sneaky sham in my mind. When one orders a steak sandwich it ALWAYS comes with mushrooms and onions if requested and very rarely does such a thing cost extra. No fries or even chips were offered. Truthfully I couldn't even find a listing for fries on the menu. Can you imagine paying $.49 for sauteed onions. Hell, I could saute about six onions for $.49!!! That is ludicrous. See, the prices look good until you begin adding things that should already be there. Then, I ordered Cheddar cheese and was given American. That was another server mistake since it was on the bill her way and not mine. She did not write down the order, which is something all should be required to do regardless of perceived ability to remember as my case will point out.
I believe the owner's name is Ron and he came to the table for an introduction. I liked that a great deal. He was very personable and wanted to know what we thought, and we told him. He agreed about the lack of sides without Ala carte and said that is just the way the corporate office out of Columbus works. I told him I would write to Columbus then.
Makia, our server, was good but seemed extremely shy, which is I believe why she made the two mistakes she made. She will get better and should be nurtured on her way.
Otherwise, there were way too many people milling about. I counted at least 6 females just standing around while we were waiting for our food. They were talking loudly at the bar and that, to me, is incredibly annoying. If one hears another customer's life story, that is one thing, but when you find out personal things about your servers, for instance that Makia had some argument with someone about her "baby," that is quite uncalled for. Have them congregate some place else or shut the hell up.
