Lakeshore Eatery on Lakeshore Blvd. Mentor. 08/02/2008

Hold on to your hats (and various sundry other clothing items/body parts) this one is going to give you fits. I want to preface this, though, by saying that they can't have been open for more than two or three days, BUT that does no excuse some of the things about which you will read. I also want to put this out and thank the woman (and I believe it was her daughter) who sat directly behind me for her input and allowing for me to use her experience here as well. Thanks so much!

Anyway, as soon as we sat down we noticed that the prices seemed a bit much. For instance, as grilled cheese is $3.99 with only lettuce, tomato, and pickle chips. No potato chips or fries or anything else. In fact, we also noticed, as I wanted breakfast, that according to the menu, nothing even came with toast. I asked because I wanted the chicken fried steak and eggs, but there was nothing with which to soak up the egg yolk unless I wanted to pay an extra $1.29. That to me is ludicrous. Come on now, every egg breakfast comes with toast unless it comes with pancakes.

I forgot the thing that started this out to be a huge damned mistake. Very soo after we were seated there was a constant banging coming from the other side of the wall in the kitchen. After about five minutes of constant noise I finally got to our sever and told her to tell them to stop whatever it was they were doing. She came back to inform us that they were using the wall slicer to cut potatoes for fries. It was 1:00 in the after noon for fuck sake. You do that kind of prep work in the morning before customers arrive so they aren't bothered by such a thing. Come on...THINK!!!!!

I have to admit, though, that my chicken fried steak was better than normal. It seemed to be hand breaded and a bit better cut than I am used to. The gravy was not as good as plain old pepper gravy mix, but all in all it was all right.

I digress. We arrived at about 1pm on Saturday August 2nd, 2008. There were about four tables in the main room and one table in the front room occupied. There were at least six employees milling about in various places. One was at a table near the register, two young people, one male and one female were behind the register seemingly doing nothing and there seemed to be three servers. Were immediately greeted and taken to a booth at the front. I actually liked the fact that they had turned the liquor bar into a breakfast bar type area. And the natural light from the plate glass window was a plus.

I have already discussed the menu, which is oddly eclectic, and its prices. After about ten minutes we ordered, my companion got the Pot Roast Dinner while I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs over medium with a single pancake. Hers came with mashed potatoes and green beans while mine came with hash browns. While waiting for our order, we heard some problems coming from the table behind me. The woman, whom I have already mentioned, said something about how it was ridiculous to pay $7.49 for chicken fingers and get no fries with it. Then within minutes she called the server over again. She said that her hashbrowns were raw and that her sausage gravy just tasted, "bad." To a person like me, obviously, this was just a precursor of things to come. The server, Donna, never seemed to be very sincere to begin with but sounded even worse when confronted. The woman behind me just told her to take it all back. while the other female with her completed her meal.

You can probably already see where this is going, but I need to write it nonetheless. Thinking of that above, you are not going to believe this. When my hash browns arrived I took one bite and thought the same thing the woman behind me thought. The fucking potatoes were raw. I told the server and she went back with them, wanting to take the entire plate. We had already waited for over 1/2 hour so I told them to just bring me more. Then our "regular server came back and attempted the same thing. I was getting a bit irate by this time and just put my hand over hers and said, "Leave them!" It took more than 25 more minutes before she returned, and we had to ask at that, with the check. Now, sit back and hold on.... THEN she came back yet again with my has browns (Home fries, whatever). Can you even imagine something so idiotic? I told her to just take them off the bill which took another ten minutes. My companion decided, for curiosity sake, to try them. Guess what??? They were just as raw. To make matters worse, when I sent them back, I could hear the cook complaining that there was "no way they could be raw." Obviously they need someone back there who might be able to tell cooked from raw potatoes.

As I said before, I realize they are in their infancy, but some of these things are inexcusable. Get your shit together folks. I want to say the same thing my fellow patron said to me before she left, "I really wanted to like this place." It didn't happen. I might try back in a couple of months to see if they have gotten a clue or four (if they are still open), but it won't be until then.

I love your reviews. I can relate to so many of your comments at most of these restaurants.

Good for you for speaking out about these places and their employees, good and bad.

I am definitely one to speak my mind as well. If I am not happy with service or food, I say something. On the other hand, when I have excellent service or food, I always let the business know as well.

I will definitely continue reading about your dining adventures.

Thanks for writing them,
The woman who sat behind you at Lakeshore Eatery

First let me say that i work there and all the accusations you made are typical problems with new staff and restaurant. Since the opening a lot of things have changed. From menu changes to changes in the staff. I have worked there since we opened and I will admit we had issues to work out but we have been working on them. A lot has been fixed already. The home fries have been changed, for example. Try us again and see.

Haha man with no credentials goes into a restaurant within the first few days of its opening no doubt looking for something wrong. Get a life. I wont take any of this seriously. Oh, and to daughter hater, that is some seriously hurtful stuff you are posting for the world to see. When it comes to identifying rudeness, I would like to point out this site, and also mention the word hypocrisy. Get a real hobby

lakeshore eatery employees are extremely unprofessional. The food is overpriced, unhealthy, and all around awful. I will never set foot in that place again.
