Panera in Mentor, Ohio
I really hate to do this to Panera, but sometimes things just force my hand. I want to preface this by saying that they have the absolute best Asiago Cheese bagels I have found thus far. They also have some pretty wonderful broccoli cheddar soup. I had some of their "signature green tea" once, though that was horrible but that was another time.
My friend and I were shopping at the Points East Plaza when we decided it would be nice to have some nice and hearty soup, the day was about 95 but sometimes it just doesn't matter, you know? So... we went to one of our favorite soup spots, Panera. I was busy filling out an entry for a free gas card when my comrade called me to her side. She pointed toward the pastry case with a look of utter disgust on her face. It took me a couple of seconds to register that which was distressing her but when I did I am sure my look was no less horrified. There buzzing around the strawberries on what I would suspect were Strawberry Cheese Danishes, were about twenty small insects. My companion thought they were ants, but when I tapped the glass they flew off. Fruit Flies!!!!. I know that sometimes happens, but it was absolutely disgusting. We were both actually about to buy some pastry but immediately decided against it, probably for a good long time, in fact.
We placed our separate orders and when I was finished I told the young lady what I had seen. I said it very discretely so as not to shock other customers. She told another young female. Then I saw a larger man with a bald head go over toward the case. I figured they had at least removed the offending pastry. I was wrong. When I left, approximately five minutes later, the pastry, as well as the flies, was still there. I am also posting a photo which is not very clear, but you can see the dark spots on the strawberries where they should not be. Those are the offending insects. Shame on you guys for not making sure that was taken care of as soon as I mentioned it. This will make me thing twice before coming back again.
