Wicked at the State Theatre on Cleveland, OH 6-22

Today, June 22, 2006, I was lucky enough to have had tickets to one of the hottest show to come from Broadway recently, Wicked. This play, musical, is the “untold story” of the Witches of OZ. If you happen to get the chance, RUN, don’t walk, to get tickets. It was the most enjoyable play I have ever seen. The concept was completely original and something that everyone could have a, “Yeah, that could have happened,” moment while watching. The play had parts that only adults should get but was entertaining enough for children. Not the youngest, but probably six and above would handle it quite well. There were poignant scenes, annoying scenes and many laugh-out loud funny scenes. Go. Go. Go. This is all I can say.
My mother and I went and had lower mezzanine seats at the State Theatre in Cleveland’s Playhouse Square complex. The seats were much to close, front to back, for comfort and I am only 6 feet tall. Also it seemed that a scene where the tin man and cowardly lion have decided to go against West, the main characters were much too far stage left. I could see all of the extras but not even a glimpse of the lion or tin man. We were far stage left ourselves, but the main action should have been center with the extras off to the side not the other way around. If, in fact, I saw things poorly, so did those stage right that could not see Glinda or the Headmistress/Press Secretary.
